What makes a book on a deppressed kid good?

One of those daily thought things sounded like a good, idea, because its almost midnight and im f'n bored, so if anything its a nightly though.
Being rather young compared to most of the members, im still in high school as most of you know, but I've just been wondeing, how is "catcher in the rye" a good book? regardless of what holden(main character) says to anybody, it always winds up a page of him talking about deppression, and that he hates a certain person,or that it reminds him of something sad "it kills him". truly one of the worst books I've ever read.
In another story I may be dropping out to pursue a graphic arts deal with some indie movie company, pay is ok, but still thinking about it.
